How we work

We at defencelawyer4u approach each case in the same methodical way.

First, we will try to gain as much information as possible from the Police or the Crown Prosecution Service, in order to fully understand every aspect of the allegation against you.

Secondly, we will listen carefully to what you have to say.

Thirdly, we will advise you as to the law and to your options.  We are always completely open and honest in our dealings with you, and won’t hold anything back from you.  We will give you our advice even if it isn’t what you want to hear. 

Fourthly, we will agree a case plan with you, building your defence layer by layer, starting with your statement, finding witnesses who can help your case, taking photographs of crime scenes, obtaining medical reports, commissioning expert witnesses, researching the law and applying it to your case, and, above all, keeping you updated with regular communication as your case develops.

Throughout your case, either at the Police Station or at Court, we will ensure that one of our dedicated lawyers will be with you every step of the way.

Who we are

defencelawyer4u is the trading style of ‘I J Owen & Co. Limited’, a firm of solicitors based in Oldham, Lancashire. Having been set up in 2003, the firm quickly established itself as a provider of quality advice, assistance and first rate Court advocacy.

We at defencelawyer4u have a keen work ethic and will work into the night to get a result for a client.  Clients enjoy our friendly, welcoming approach and the fact that they can always expect a sympathetic hearing from us, whatever the problem.

Ian Owen, the principal lawyer at the firm, has been in legal practice for over 15 years, and is current Chairman of ‘Allied Defence Lawyers’, a group of solicitor firms from across the North West, dedicated to pooling resources and expertise, in order to more efficiently represent their clients.

Ian and his team are passionate about representing their clients and this is reflected in their robust and tenacious advocacy skills in Court.

In order to broaden the range of services to his clients, Ian recently entered into a consultancy agreement with a large, heavyweight firm of solicitors in the North West of England, enabling him to assist with very serious allegations of Fraud, Money Laundering, VAT fraud and criminal cases involving an international element.

Ian has been asked to contribute to radio programmes on issues related to developments in the Criminal Justice System.
